Is an Armenian mythological name, the name of God of spring, flora, harvest; later - God of war, strength. Some scientists find analogy between Arm god Ara and Greek Ares( as dying and rising from the dead gods).G. Ghapantsyan is one of them (See ''Chetto - armeniaca'', 27) as well as A. Matikyan who writes that Ara and Aras are the same mythological character (See ''Ara Geghetsik'', p. 314- 315). According to G. Ghapantsyan this name comes from Shumer languages which means ''forest'', ''field'' etc. Nowadays it is wide-spread.
