Is a new name which is in use since XIX c. H. Ajaryan considers it a Greek name, which means "basket" but it is not mentioned in his list of names borrowed from Greek and Latin. Probably it came through Russian and is still in use. This name comes from Latin Špir "soul" and donum "present". We also have the form Ispiridon, Ispir for short from which the surname Ispiryan is formed.
