From Persian name Farhat that means "clever", "smart". It is in use since XV c. due to "Fahrat and Shirin" eastern novel. There are also the forms Fayrat, Fayro, Vahrad, Fahrad from which the surnames Vahradyan, Fayratyan, Fayroyan are formed.
