From Zend anaoša (Parthian anoš) "immortal" later "pleasant", "sweet". This name was also used in Persia. It is also a constituent in a number of complex words (Haykanush, Vardanush, Hranush). It became popular due to H. Tumanyan's "Anush" opera.
