Appeared in XIX c. under the influence of Muratsan's "Ruzan or Patriotic Girl" drama. According to Yusti it is the short form of the name Ruzudan or Ruzukan, H. Ajaryan approves it. It is not excluded that this name consists of ruz "blond" like in the Turkish name Rusbeg or Ruzbeg (ruz "blond"+beg "prince"). We also have the form Ruzanna though the name Ruzan is only a female name and there is no need to add any female suffix.
