From Parthian akhšen "gray"(Zend akhšaena "black", "bluish-black"). This name may also come from Parthian khšet (Zend khšaeta) "fiery red". It is an old name mentioned by M. Khorenatsi in his "History" as Ashkhadar's daughter. It may also come from a part of the above-mentioned name Ashkhadar and Persian en diminutive suffix (Ashkh+en). It is in use now.
