DZOVINAR
From Armenian dzovinar "shine". It may also come from Arm dzov "sea" and Arabian nar "fire" i.e. "fiery sea". It is in use since XV c. G. Ghapantsyan considers this name a mythological name connecting it with Semite naru "rive" from which water spirits take their names (Arm Voskinar, Dzovinar, Greek Nareus, Indian Nara). And with this form Nara Arm Nari (from heathen ages) is connected which later became Nuri met in the song "Nuri-Nuri came"(during draughts a doll scarecrow is made and this song is sung to call rains). The name Dzovinar became popular in 1939 after the celebration of the anniversary of Arm epos.
